MOUNTAIN PRODUCE
Mountain Produce moved to their small farm in Minera, North Wales in 2011. In 2013 they started growing their first salad produce and selling to local pubs and restaurants. The salad proved popular and with every year that passed they expanded production to meet demand.
In 2021 they were looking for something else to produce to sell alongside their salad and after many different ideas settled on cold pressed rapeseed oil and Welsh cold pressed sunflower oil. They made a few small sample batches and it was a success. Cold pressed oil retains the sunflower seeds' flavour, Making a nice light oil full of flavour. Perfect for dressing our salad produce with. Or dipping bread into. And great on warm new potatoes.
Mountain Produce use renewable energy to power the farm as much as possible. Solar panels supply electricity and the farm house is heated by a biomass boiler. Their products create very little waste during their production and any small amount of waste produced is used on the farm where possible, either fed to the livestock or composted on site.
Pressing the cold pressed oils produces ‘press cake’, this is made up from the spent seed that is expelled once the oil has been extracted from them. The press cake makes a valuable feed for livestock.
