ZINFANDEL
Known as Primitivo in Italy, the Zinfandel grape is a black-skinned grape that is very popular in Californian vineyards. It was introduced in to the USA in the mid-ninteenth century and is originally from Croatia.
Producing bold reds but also fruity roses, the taste of Zinfandel wine depends greatly on the temperature where it is grown, with wines from hot locations displaying a richer blackberry flavour compared to a raspberry flavour in cooler climates. Additional flavours include peach, cinnammon and sweet tobacco. Zinfandel and Primitivo pair well with Mediterranean, North African and Asian foods.
