SEMILLON
A gold-skinned grape from France that is also grown in Australia, South Africa and South America. At one time it was the most planted grape in the world and in the nineteenth century accounted for almost all of South Africa's vineyards (it accounts for just 1% now).
A thin-skinned grape that is easy to grow, Semillon is the key grape in the Bordeaux dessert wine Sauternes. it is similar to Chardonnay when matured in oak barrels. Semillon wines are generally quite heavy with low acidity. Notes of lemon, beeswax, peach and chamomile. Semillon wines are good with fish and white meat.
