MERLOT

The word 'Merlot' is belived to come from the French word for blackbird ('merle'), due to the grape's dark blue colour. It is one of the world's most planted grapes.

It is one of the main grape varieties used in Bordeaux wine and is also one of the most popular grapes for single variety wines. Bordeaux Merlots are usually harvested earlier than elsewhere in the world. This gives Bordeaux Merlots a lower alcohol content and body compared to the intense Merlots from elsewhere.

Merlots show notes of dark fruits such as cherry, plum and blackberries as well as chocolate , vanilla and herbs. They are great with meat, especially pork.
