VIOGNIER
A white wine grape from France, Viognier is now planted across the world, especially in New World countries. Similar to Chardonnay, it produces soft full-bodied whites but with a more natural flavour.
It can be quite a temperamental grape to grow, is low-yield and needs a long growing season. As it often requires barrel fermentation due to it's vulnerability in too much oxygen, it also benefits from the presence of skilled winemakers.
Notes of tangerine, peach, mango and honeysuckle usually dominate and it works well with fruity or nutty dishes.
