The finest wines in the Danube region grow on the steep terraced vineyards of Stein an der Donau. Here, in the neighboring village of Loiben, is the gateway to the Wachau. The narrow Danube valley Wachau opens up to the east at this point. Here, vines grow on the rockiest soils and enjoy perfect insolation. You can also clearly feel the invigorating west winds, which protect the vines from fungal diseases. Wines from Stein embody ripe stone fruit with depth and pronounced nuances of tobacco. Wines that get an extra dose of ageing potential. As one of the oldest wine estates of Austria, the Weingut Stadt Krems can be described as rich in tradition with good reason. The historical roots can be traced back to the year 1210. The city of Krems has owned vineyards since 1452.
