Austria’s red wine region lies in the easternmost part of the country, close to the border with Hungary. Georg Prieler runs a small family estate, organically certified, making great wines from the local grape, Blaufränkisch. It’s quite a powerful grape, and a year’s rest in large old oak barrels softens the wine’s firm tannins before bottling and release.
