We're delighted to present Penderyn's 12th Icons of Wales Single Malt, celebrating a time when Swansea was central to the world's copper industry. The Icons of Wales are special bottlings, each one celebrating a person, milestone or event from Wales.
Swansea became known as Copperopolis because, from 1720, 50% of the world's copper and 90% of the UK's copper was smelted in the area. Penderyn's new distillery is in the powerhouse of the old copperworks building.
In turning ore drawn from the Welsh hills into highquality copper, Copperopolis was born to create riches
from the land. In 1980, production of copper ceased when the Hafod Works closed, but in 2023 Penderyn Distillery Swansea forged a new future for Copperopolis, mastering the elements of Wales once more to create the precious liquid we call Aur Cymru, the Gold of Wales.
TASTING NOTES
Nose: Floral and fruity. Scent of orange blossom, notes of peaches, cherries and orange peel. Sweet vanilla and honey, with a light spice of dried fruits.
Palate: Luscious mouthfeel. Rich sweetness of caramel and honey. Bouquet of dried fruits; raisins, figs and light oak spices.
Finish: Dry oak remains, with a citrus sweetness and a dust of cocoa to the end.
This 70cl bottle has an ABV of 46%.
